“POSEIDON” God of the Seas, creator of storms, floods and earthquakes. He is the most disruptive of all Greek Gods.
He emerges from the sea enraged and vengeful. Do we know his wrath?
The GODS AND WARRIORS series looks at the power of myth, and the impact storytelling has on shaping our lives. I was drawn to the power inherent in the Greek God images. The challenge became creating God-like pieces that could inspire the viewer to contemplate what that mythical power means. *Cambium fiber paper was the ideal material for this endeavor. Since discovering this paper, I have been fascinated by its strong cellular structure and three-dimensional possibilities. It’s pliability allowed me to mold and create life-sized works, representing mythical gods and asking the questions: Do these myths stay with us buried somewhere in our minds? Are they useful to remember now? Do they still resonate?
*Cambium fiber from the Asian mulberry tree is harvested in rural Laos. It is an important cash crop to the paper industry.
